Lilly Lulay: Feature Extraction – Photography as Raw Data
11.09.2021 – 30.10.2021
Opening 10.09.
Artificial intelligence, Google, social media, data analysis, and smartphones are our constant companions. The digital world with all its mechanisms has become an integral part of our lives. More or less subtly and unconsciously, it increasingly influences our perception and our social behaviors.
Lilly Lulay critically questions this development in her artwork. Her raw material consists of photographs which she has obtained online, at flea markets, or from acquaintances.
Acting like an algorithm herself, she selects and extracts elements from these images by hand, cutting them out, highlighting them, or covering them up. In this way, new structures and patterns emerge as paintings and collages. In another series of embroidered pictures on fabric, she depicts technical devices such as an old Nokia or Gameboy—gadgets that may well become the cult objects and relics of our time.
In this exhibition, Galerie Klüser 2 offers a first glimpse of Lilly Lulay’s artistic work in cooperation with Kuckei + Kuckei.
