Talk, Musical Introduction, Reading, and Concert
Tenor Julian Prégardien speaks with visual artist Lee Mingwei about the moving power of Franz Schubert’s songs, the translation of romantic poetry into music, music’s extraordinary ability to comfort, and the musical basis of this emotional effect. The discussion is based on Lee Mingwei’s performance piece Sonic Blossom in the Villa Stuck, during which Schubert songs are sung by opera singers on a daily basis in Franz von Stuck’s music room. Afterwards, Prégardien reads from Kurt David’s Der Spielmann vom Himmelpfortgrund and concludes the evening with a concert.
Julian Prégardien is an internationally acclaimed tenor. In addition to his concert performances, he also teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.

Chuquimamani-Condori’s releases are knotted with traditional Aymara knowledge and praxis, including the notion of the dead “re-speaking” with the passage of each song as well as taypi or the center where “spacetimes co-mingle” as an attestation of nonlinear time and inseparability. Her sounds emerge between the horizons of American west coast post-minimalism as well as autochthonous Andean Aymara music, and her recent LP, ORCORARA 2010 (2020), originally debuted at the Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement 2018, interweaves acoustic guitars, droning synthesizers, piano and spoken word.
Her brother Joshua Chuquimia Crampton is an LA-based Aymara guitarist, composer and multi-media artist whose most recent releases include 4 (2021) and The Heart’s Wash (2020), a full-length project of solo guitar compositions that are as meditative and wandering as they are viscerally raw and immediate.
Performance: Viktor Korol, Marie-Caroline Hominal, and Johannes Willi

On Saturday at 7pm there will be a screening of the film at 7pm, followed by a performance lecture by Chuquimamani-Condori who will share research on embodied cultural heritage that informed the making of it.
