Bea Schlingelhoff: No River To Cross
11.09.2021 – 21.11.2021
Opening 10.09.
The Kunstverein München was founded in 1823 and is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in Germany. Located in a building adjacent to the Hofgarten, it is both a fixture of the local art scene and an internationally recognized critical and discursive platform for contemporary art.
This September, the Kunstverein München presents the first institutional solo exhibition of Bea Schlingelhoff in Germany. In her conceptual practice, Schlingelhoff addresses forgotten (female) biographies and challenges existing or historically established patriarchal structures. At the same time, she traces and examines the continuities of fascist constructs. Schlingelhoff works primarily with spatial and structural interventions as well as with
the materiality and representation of writing. Her critical approach is furthered by a process of inquiry into the respective exhibition site and its history, the conditions of artistic production, and whether the role of an institution may be shifted or overturned through artistic gestures.
